About Ibis Exchange
After years of kayaking and travel in Washington, California, Florida, Costa Rica, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras, we were fortunate enough to stumble upon the people and nature reserves in Nicaragua. It was a life-changing moment. We are proud to say that Padre Ramos, Nicaragua, is now our home.
At Ibis Exchange, we are built on our staff of professional guides, cooks, and drivers, as well as our partnerships with local families and locally-owned hotels and restaurants. Our mission is to expand the realm of possibilities for international travelers and the people of Nicaragua.
Our focus on education, discovery of new places and cultures, and local partnerships has made our tours and our company a growing success. We thank everyone who has been a part of making it all possible.
Jenn has traveled extensively in Central America, Mexico and the United States, paddling kayaks, rafts, and dugout canoes on coastal bays, estuaries, rivers, and lakes. A wildlife biologist, outdoor educator, professional ACA-trained sea kayaking instructor, sailor, vagabond, and guide, Jenn will treat you to all of the best parts in Nicaragua. Her knowledge and passion for her new home is absolutely contagious.
Uciel was born and raised in Padre Ramos, Nicaragua. When he's not kayaking on the estuary or hiking to the top of a volcano, Uciel is an English student at the National University of Nicaragua in Leon. He lives surrounding his twelve siblings in Padre Ramos and their extended families. Uciel is studying English in his hope to become a world traveler and professional guide in Europe, Nicaragua, or the United States. He has been an active volunteer in the youth program within his community, launching a cooperative bakery and a sea turtle egg hatchery program.
Eddy was born and raised in Padre Ramos, Nicaragua. As a local fisherman, Eddy became the first person in his community to attend college, combining his passion for the natural world with his love for his culture. Eddy is a key community leader in Padre Ramos and is a self-proclaimed social advocate, teacher, and environmentalist. Eddy has received attention by Earth Island Institute for his grassroots conservation projects within his hometown.
Dina is a guide-in-training, as well as our talented and beloved cook. (She is also a wicked shot at "bocce jicarao"). Dina lives with her family including her four brothers, two sisters, mother, and two children. When Dina is not working with Ibis, she runs a local pulperia and manages a cattle herd with her family. Her specialties are local favorites like fresh snapper, miel de ayote, gallo pinto, arroz relleno, pure de papa, y carne molido de vaca.
